- Fuse Simulation (C) J.P.Taylor Help Text
- ============================== =========
-
- A fuse is a safety device to stop too much electricity flowing through a cable
- or appliance. It is important to choose the correct fuse. If the fuse is too
- small it will blow (melt) immediately. If the fuse is too big you risk too much
- electricity flowing if there is a surge of power, in which case your appliance
- could be damaged, or more seriously, the cables get hot and a fire could start.
-
- This application has a range of appliances you can choose from. Click on one
- of them with the left hand mouse button and the details will be entered into the
- simulation section in the top right corner. You then have to choose a fuse to
- insert into the circuit. Click on one from the selection in the fuse section.
- To help you out, there is also a calculation section which calculates the
- current drawn by the appliance. The fuse you choose should be the next size up
- from this value.
-
- NOTE: Although only a picture of a plug is used, fuses greater than 13 amps are
- only used in a distribution board, NOT IN THE PLUG ITSELF.
-
- When you have chosen an appliance and a fuse for it, click on the "Switch on"
- icon and see what happens. If you have made a mistake, just choose a new fuse
- and try again. There is no need to reset unless you want everything cleared to
- start again.
